Why is dental hygiene important?

Dental hygiene focuses on the health of your gums, which is important because your gums form the supporting structure for your teeth; without healthy gums there is no healthy smile.

Disease-free gums protect and support the teeth, keeping your smile beautiful for the long term.

The gums are a barrier that prevents bacteria in the mouth from reaching the jawbone below. If plaque is not properly removed and builds up around the gums it can cause inflammation, called gum disease. This can then cause the gum to pull away from the teeth creating a gap, which is a perfect spot for more plaque and bacteria to hide. This is when gum disease becomes periodontal disease, which can lead to tooth loss if left untreated.

Gum disease also has proven links with numerous other conditions, including stroke, heart disease and diabetes so it is in the interest of your overall health to keep your gums in top condition!

How can your hygienist help?

Regular visits to your dental hygienist allows us to monitor your gum health, remove plaque build-up that can cause gum disease, and provide oral care advice to help you maintain a healthy mouth between appointments.

Your hygienist will have a good look around your mouth and assess the health of your gums. They can advise if you do have gum disease and, if so, what stage it is at. In most cases, following a professional clean by the hygienist, boosting your home care regime will reverse the problem.

Your hygienist will carry out a routine clean, which is where special tools are used to remove plaque that has built up on your teeth. Your teeth will then be polished, and you’ll leave us with a sparkling smile that feels super smooth!

Regular dental hygiene appointments will help to keep your oral health on track, so make sure you attend as often as recommended by your hygienist.

Airflow tooth polishing

At Treehouse Dental we know the importance of investing in the best technology to allow our dental team to provide the best care for our patients.

That’s why we are pleased to provide treatment with the Airflow system.

The Airflow system gently and effectively cleans the teeth using a combination of air, water and fine powder particles. No tools ever touch tooth teeth during this treatment, making it less invasive than traditional hygiene methods.

Not only does the Airflow provide an exceptional clean, it can also remove everyday surface staining from the foods and drinks we regularly consume, such as tea and coffee. You’ll leave with a brighter smile after just one appointment! We love combining Airflow treatment with tooth whitening for superb results.

Composite bonding: Frequently asked questions

  • How long does composite bonding last?

If the treatment is properly maintained and cared for, we expect composite bonding to last around 5 years before it needs replacing.

  • Will composite bonding whiten my teeth?

If you would like your teeth to be whiter, we would recommend a course of teeth whitening treatment prior to composite bonding. This will allow you to achieve your desired shade so that we can match the composite shade to your natural teeth. Composite cannot be whitened with tooth whitening gel.

  • Do my teeth need to be straight before composite bonding?

While composite bonding can be used to mask minor misalignment, we may recommend teeth straightening treatment first. This will mean less composite material is required, achieving a far more natural and longer lasting final result.

  • Does composite bonding look natural?

Yes. All of the cosmetic dental practitioners at Treehouse Dental are highly skilled perfectionists who are masters at creating beautiful smiles that look seamless.
